About Holiday Food Box
NeedLink Nashville has been hosting a Holiday Food Box project since 1912, when local businessmen delivered peach baskets full of food to the shanty towns that then lined the Railroad Gulch and Cumberland River on Christmas Eve.
Last year, NeedLink Nashville and Publix partnered to provide 200 Holiday Food Boxes to families, individuals and seniors in Nashville.
We collect food from local corporate partners such as Publix, Jackson and others and purchase fresh produce from the Second Harvest.
Monday, December 17, 2018: Food is brought to Bridgestone Arena, sorted and placed into the bags.
Tuesday, December 18, 2018: Food is distributed to drivers who take the bags to local Churches, families, individuals and seniors who have requested a food box to be delivered.
Our goal this year is to provide 300 bags for our Nashville neighbors using 100 community volunteers.
Volunteers and Time Needed
Our volunteer goal is 100 friends and neighbors from local partners, churches, and corporate sponsors such as Publix, Jackson National Bank and others.
Day one volunteers are responsible for sorting and placing the food into the Holiday bags. The estimated amount of time for Day One would be 4 - 5 hours (Pending the number of volunteers).
Day two volunteers are responsible for taking the food boxes to the homes of the families. With 100 volunteers each taking 3 food boxes, we should be able to load and vacate the location in 2 hours.
